Your voice matters.

Your voice is the beating heart of your work. We will ensure that you shine through your writing.

We founded Writing Fulcrum on our shared commitment to support writers at every stage of their careers, regardless of gender, race, sexuality, age, class, ability, religion, ethnic or national origin.

Writing is hard. Many struggle with:

  • Feeling silenced in academia and writing workshops.

  • Getting harsh criticism without constructive feedback.

  • Navigating settings that are not built to support you.

Sometimes it feels like everyone around you has a secret formula for publishing success, while you struggle just to get your ideas out of your head and onto the page.

We’ve been there.

  • As first-generation grad students, we were surrounded by ivy-league educated professors who expected us to know how to write academic papers without explaining the formula for success.

  • [agism in literary community while embarking on literary writing careers; dealing with the “thirty under thirty” writers to watch.]

  • From navigating these hostile spaces, we have reached success and learned how to guide other writers with kindness and meaningful support.

You deserve [fellow travelers] who will:

  • Empathize with your struggle.

  • Treat you with kindness and patience, without making you feel small.

Let’s create space where you can express and organize your thoughts, focus on what really matters in your message, and figure out how to convey that to your audience - in your voice.

How to get started:

  1. Schedule a free consultation.

  2. Review and accept the quote.

  3. Breathe and start!

  • “Maureen's feedback and insight on my writing was instrumental in me finishing a first draft of my memoir manuscript. Chapter by chapter, she balanced line-level feedback with broader comments on the consistent themes and ideas she saw surface in my writing.”

    Dominic Laing, Writer

  • “[Sharon’s] deep subject knowledge, combined with her own editing and writing skills, has been instrumental in my growth as a writer. Most importantly, Sharon creates a safe, professional space that encourages the development of original ideas.”

    Kevin Buretta, Writer

  • “Maureen's oral and written feedback on my writing always helps take it to the next level. Maureen's background in social justice work enhances her editorial eye and informs everything she does.”

    Hillary Behrman, Writer

  • “Sharon… taught me how to be a better writer. I learned to express my thoughts in a way that felt like me, instead of feeling like I was writing in another’s voice.”

    Stephen Cardamenis, Legislative Assistant

  • “I am a fairly new writer, and as a 75 years of age woman, I am quite clear that writing is something I am committed to doing. I plan to be part of our [writing] group for a long time. Maureen has been a wonderful support for me and our other diverse collection of consistent group members.”

    Demetra Gayle Fountaine, Writer

  • “While teaching and guiding my classmates and [me] through our work, [Sharon] encouraged a sense of freedom in how we developed our own voice and what we wanted to discuss in our writing.”

    Logan Compau, Poet
