  • We check your manuscript for the following:

    • Sentence-level smoothness and readability

    • Continuity errors

    • Language that harms (sensitivity reading)

    • Spelling mistakes

    • Grammar and formatting alignment with commonly used style guides, such as Chicago, AP, MLA, APA - or a specific style guide required by your publisher.

    • Cleaning up and standardizing for: punctuation, capitalization, numerical notation, etc.

    We return your manuscript to you with in-line changes and a style sheet that addresses the above.

    Price: 2-4 cents per word depending on subject matter and length.

    Payment: half in advance and the balance upon delivery.

    • 24-48 hours after initial consultation and our receipt of your manuscript.

    • We do our best to accommodate rush requests, but we cannot guarantee that this service will be available.

    • We cannot execute rush service for manuscripts longer than 40,000 words.

  • We help you clarify your ideas, improve the flow of the manuscript and ensure that it communicates effectively with your audience/reader.

    We return your manuscript to you with a detailed editorial letter providing feedback on your manuscript, as well as in-line changes focused on the following:

    • The flow of your prose (coherence and cohesion), ensuring that your sentence and paragraph level ideas are polished and impactful. May include: sequencing of paragraphs, sentence construction and wordiness, phraseology, repetition, and clichés.

    • Sensitivity reading for language that harms.

    • Evaluating essential components of craft and composition. May include:

      • For fiction: plot, character, tension, pacing

      • For nonfiction, including academic and journal articles: structure, clarity and strength of arguments, pacing

      • Some combination of the above where applicable, for example in creative nonfiction manuscripts

  • The final check of your work for any lingering errors, such as typos and formatting issues. This is usually the last check before you submit your manuscript for publication.

    We return a proofread manuscript that addresses any last lingering errors, such as typos.

    Does not include any Copy Editing, Developmental, or Line Editing Services.

    • Developmental Editing and Line Editing

    • Copyediting

    • Proofreading

    This includes all aspects of our other three editing services: evaluating your prose, the flow of your writing, aspects of phraseology, the effectiveness of the structure, ordering of paragraphs and sentences, proofreading for style conformity, checking for grammar, punctuation, and continuity errors, and more.
